Connecting security cameras like AMLINK or Amcrest, or other Wi-Fi cameras to modern Xfinity gateways can be frustrating. Because Xfinity's Wireless Gateway uses a single name and password for both its 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signals, devices that only understand 2.4 GHz often get confused during setup.
Here is a clear, easy-to-follow guide to temporarily disabling the 5 GHz band so you can get your camera connected smoothly. Before starting, make sure your phone or device (the one with the camera's setup app installed) is connected to your home's Wi-Fi network.
Step 1: Open the Xfinity Admin Tool. Open a web browser on your phone or computer, type http://10.0.0.1 into the address bar, and press Enter. The Xfinity login page should load on your screen.
Step 2: Sign in with your admin credentials. If you haven't changed them from the factory defaults, the username is usually admin and the password is password (check the sticker on the bottom of your gateway if those don't work).
Step 3: Navigate to Wi-Fi Settings. In the left-hand menu, select Connection, then click on Wi-Fi.
Step 4: Disable the 5 GHz Band. Look for the section labeled 5 GHz Wi-Fi and click Edit next to it. Change the setting from Enabled to Disabled, then click Save Settings.
Note: The status for the 5 GHz band updates to disabled, leaving only your 2.4 GHz band active.
Step 5: Set Up Your Camera. Open your camera's mobile app and follow the on-screen setup instructions. Because only the 2.4 GHz signal is broadcasting, your phone and camera will connect immediately without interference.
Step 6: Re-enable the 5 GHz Band. Return to your browser at http://10.0.0.1, navigate back to Connection > Wi-Fi, click Edit next to the 5 GHz band, select Enable, and click Save Settings.
